"To me, we must learn to spell the word RESPECT. We must respect the rights and properties of our fellowman. And then learn to play the game of life, as well as the game of athletics, according to the rules of society. If you can take that and put it into practice in the community in which you live, then, to me you have won the greatest championship."

Framing the Constituion

It is uncertain whether any of these gentlemen will become lawmakers or future Consitutional Scholars, but they are certainly getting a solid start in this 100m dash during the Constitution Classic at Ichabod Crane High School on Saturday, June 9, 2007.

The Constitution may have been around more than 200 years, but that can not be said of the previous records for the Constitution Classic, the second stop of the Empire State Liberty Tour Track & Field Series.

The first record broken came prior to Opening Ceremonies, when the number of registered athletes broke 200 for the first time in three years.  Shortly after the National Anthem, records fell fast and often!  More than 85 records were broken on the day, 59 Men's Records and 29 Women's Records.  In the Bantam Boys division, Austin Leonard from the Glencadia Bullets set records in the 100m (15.43), 400m (1:23.39), and the Long Jump (3.16m).  In the Young Women's division Sarah Hannay had a complete record setting performance by posting records in all three throwing events on the day.  Her put of the Shot (9.90m), was her first record , with two more to add to her collection.  A toss of the Discus (28.17m), and a throw of the Javelin (30.40m) completed a perfect trio.

There were eighteen (18) Master's Men records broken!  Zachary Gobel was responsible for two of the eighteen, as he set records in the 800m (2:07.67) and the 400m (56.03) respectively.  For all of the information and a complete list of all of the record-setting performances, log onto www.EmpireLibertyTour.com.  The next stop is the President's Open on June 15th & 16th at Queensbury High School.  It is also the only meet of the Tour that includes the Combined Events.

Pictured Above:  Luke Moyer shows that a proper start in the 100m dash is best learned at a young age. As a mere 7 year old Sub Bantam, his drive out of the blocks is nearly picture perfect!
